SARS-CoV-2 (CORONAVIRUS) AND COVID-19 UPDATE
As of November, Wayne County - like most counties in Kentucky - is listed as a "red" (high infection rate) county for COVID-19. To protect our officers, prevent the possible spread of illness in our community, and preserve our capacity to protect the community, Monticello police officers are still limiting direct, in-person contact with the public. We will continue to respond to reports of crimes in progress and other emergency situations and we will investigate criminal offenses as necessary. Reports for minor criminal offenses that are no longer in progress at the time of the report may be taken by telephone.
If you need a copy of a police report we can send it to you by e-mail, by fax, or through US Mail. Please call (606) 348-9313 during normal business hours or send e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to request a police report.
Mayor Tracie Sexton has signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in the City of Monticello due to the threat of a widespread COVID-19 outbreak. The mayor also signed orders closing City Hall to the public for in-person visits as of Monday, March 23, 2020 and an order closing the police department building to the public, except for emergencies and individuals needing assistance completing domestic violence paperwork.
Please contact City Hall at (606) 348-5719 or contact Mayor Sexton directly at (606) 278-3937 if you have questions about city services.
We ask that you comply with CDC recommendations concerning social distancing, wearing face coverings, and disinfecting surfaces daily that you or others touch. Please consider limiting non-essential travel and casual social contact.
Effective Friday, November 20 many businesses in Kentucky are once again closed by executive order of the Governor. These restrictions will last until at least December 13 but may be extended beyond that date. Restaurants may not offer dine-in service but may still offer outdoor dining and carryout. Event spaces - including weddings and funerals - are limited to 25 people, while gyms, fitness centers and indoor recreation venues are limited to 1/3 (33%) of normal capacity and may not hold group classes, team practices, or competitions. Professional services are limited to 1/3 (33%) capacity and social gatherings should consist of no more than eight people from no more than two households. Please note that these restrictions were imposed by the Governor and were not imposed by the City of Monticello.
Under the terms of a series of orders issued by the Kentucky Supreme Court, the courts are hearing most cases but almost all cases are being heard remotely using telephone or Internet communications. In cases where the presiding judge determines that an in-person hearing is necessary, only the parties to the case, their attorneys, witnesses, and other directly necessary personnel may be present in the courtroom. Wayne County Public Schools are closed for in-person classes; all classes are currently being offered through distance learning. This will continue through the end of 2020 per executive order of the Governor. Click here and here for more information about the Wayne County Schools schedule.
